This week, I’m back in Washington, DC for childhood cancer advocacy. That work began this morning on Capitol Hill with the bipartisan Children’s Cancer Caucus, where the stakes feel higher than ever.

Childhood cancer advocacy has always been a story of progress against long odds. It has been steady investment, innovation, and collaboration that has helped survival rates climb and major wins get accomplished. Yet, at the very moment America lights its landmarks gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, critical research is being cut and access to care is shrinking.

It’s a fraught time for public health, advocacy, and cancer research. The picture is clear: more children are being diagnosed, but too many have fewer pathways to the care that could save their lives.

In the cancer world, hope is a powerful tool. It sustains families through the darkest days. But hope is not abstract and it is not passive. It is actively built and reliant on access, research, and options. 

Without those, hope is a hollow promise.

My goal is to help reframe childhood cancer advocacy as a broader public health crisis, with our children on the front lines. Hope in 2025 means confronting the fact that awareness without investment or access is not progress.

If we fight for the systems that turn discovery into delivery, then hope becomes more than survival. It becomes change.
