Because the Asur are among India's most ancient iron-smelting communities. Their metallurgy dates back as far as 1200 BCE. They are a people who turned raw earth into iron long before industry gave it a name. Their furnaces weren't just tools. They were sacred — Asur women sang to the furnace as they worked, encouraging it like a mother encouraging new life.

Today, fewer than 22,000 Asur remain. Their ancient craft is nearly extinct.
