As an herbalist, I spend my days thinking about plants—not just the ones we harvest and bottle, but the ones that feed the bees, shelter the birds, and stitch ecosystems together from the ground up.

That’s why I practice No Mow May.

Letting your lawn grow for just one month can:

• Provide early nectar to pollinators just waking up from winter
• Offer shelter to ground-nesting bees, birds, and insects
• Support wild herbs like violets, dandelion, dead nettle, chickweed—all beloved by both pollinators and herbalists
• Build resilience in the soil microbiome (which, like our own gut flora, thrives on diversity)
• Remind us to observe before we intervene

This isn’t about being lazy. It’s about stewardship.

Many of the plants we mow down—like dandelion, violet, and chickweed—are not just weeds. They’re food for pollinators and medicine for us. By letting them grow, we support bees and biodiversity, including the very herbs we turn to for spring cleansing and resilience.

Join me. Skip the mower this May.
