When you’re raising a child with Autism Level 1, you learn early on how to minimize your own experience.

Because anytime you try to explain how hard it is, someone quickly follows with:
“At least they can talk.”
“At least they’ll function independently.”
“At least they can be in a typical classroom.”

And yes—those things can be true.
They matter.
They’re blessings.

But they don’t erase the rest.

What often goes unspoken is how Level 1 families slowly learn that our struggles aren’t taken seriously.

So we stop talking about the anxiety.
The constant emotional ups and downs.
The exhaustion that never really lifts.
The masking that looks like everything is okay—until it suddenly isn’t.
The sadness that shows up way too early.
The heartbreak of watching a smart, capable child struggle in systems that were never designed for how their brain works.

Not because other families don’t struggle—they absolutely do.
But because there isn’t much room to admit out loud:

This is hard too.

Autism Level 1 isn’t “easier.”
It’s different.
And different still comes with pain.

If this quietly resonates with you—
If this put words to something you’ve been carrying—
Please know you’re not alone.

I see you. 🫶🏽
