Here’s how PhDs actually make the jump 👇

1. Translate your skills, don’t undersell them.

You’re not “just” an academic. You’re a project manager, data analyst, communicator, strategist.
✅ Instead of “Conducted literature review…” → Say: “Synthesized 300+ data points to shape market recommendations.”
✅ Instead of “Taught undergrad course…” → Say: “Designed and delivered training for 50+ learners with measurable skill growth.”

2. Use the right job titles in your search.

Searching “PhD jobs” won’t get you far. Try these:
- User Researcher – Google, Spotify, Booking.com
- Medical Science Liaison – Novartis, Pfizer
- Competitive Intelligence Analyst – Sanofi, IQVIA
- Product Analyst – Klarna, Dassault Systèmes
- Strategy Consultant – McKinsey, EY-Parthenon
- Patent Analyst – Clarivate, BioPatentNet

These companies hire because you think like a researcher.

3. Rewrite your CV for outcomes, not process.

❌ Academic CV:
“Investigated X using Y method over Z timeframe.”

✅ Industry Resume:
“Led a cross-functional project that identified a $250K process inefficiency, influencing product redesign.”

Prove the impact, not the technique.

4. Talk to 5 PhDs who left academia.

Seriously, reach out on LinkedIn. Ask:
- What’s your actual day-to-day like?
- What surprised you most after leaving?
- What helped you get hired?

Don’t just read job ads but study real stories.

5. Your value isn’t in your degree. It’s in how you solve problems.

Every industry needs thinkers, communicators, data minds, and systems people.
