#ThrowbackThuraday to that time I was “working” and being reminded that there are still those who are truly thankful for anything and everything we do as medical providers. Being an #ERNurse inside a busy #LevelOneTraumaCenter has led me down multiple avenues I would never have imagined 5 years ago.
Ayear ago, I was given an opportunity I could not pass up even though there was a lot of unanswered questions and time to be taken from my full-time job. With this opportunity, came a little bit of traveling for a few weeks (who passes up Hawaii) to assist in a new clinic that models an approach to urgent care service delivery that has NEVER been attempted in the United States in order to bring the knowledge of sophisticated, university-affiliated emergency medicine and trauma center with the needs of a rural island community in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. An opportunity backed with confidence from being a Board Certified Emergency Nurse #CEN. Having the chance to work in an environment with limited resources and not even a percentage of resources I have at my fingertips back here in Utah. 
It is so obvious back in Kauai that there is no kind gesture too small to make a big difference in someone’s life and it sure is felt/known from the patients I was able to treat alongside some of the best MD’s and APCs I get to work alongside everyday back in the states. This is the exact reason I went into healthcare and the reason I will never leave it. The reason I will continue to seek knowledge and challenge the #BCEN Certification Exams in the future. 
Getting to help those in need and truly making a difference with every patient treated all because of a group of physicians who have spent countless hours and dollars making their dream a reality for the North Shore of Kauai! You are all true heroes and I love the success story behind this clinic already. Mahalo!
