today i found myself in a conversation that made me instantly question why i do what i do when i was asked, "how much do you make?" at the time i was asked i did not have an answer and knew my response would probably be cliché so i chose not to answer. after the conversation was over i found myself questioning the same thing and realized there are no numbers to answer that question. there is nothing in writing to explain how much i make but there are multiple things i do know even when it seems like the proof is not there. i know i can make holding your hand the most important thing in the world when you are alone & scared. i can help your loved one survive a heart attack, the nastiest car accident, a stroke, & anything else you can think of. i can make your child breath again when he/she stops breathing for unknown reasons. i can make myself get up at 5am to make sure your loved one is taken care of during the worst day of his/her life. i work 12+ hours a day to save the lives of total strangers. every shift i am asked to risk the safety of myself for the most unappreciative individuals one can imagine. i put my family aside to make sure your family is taken care of. i make myself stay late in order to make sure everything i did for your loved one is charted correctly. i make myself work every weekend and multiple holidays because people do not just get sick monday thru friday; 8am to 5pm. today, i may save your life. so no, i can not answer how much i "make" but i do know i get to "make" a difference! #traumanursing #emergencydepartment #codetrauma #bceninstacrew
