THIS PLANT HAS MEALY BUGS 😭 | follow @reenasplants for daily plant care tips!

Usually when my plants have pests, I take a few cuttings and then throw away the main plant because I don’t want to risk pest spreading to my other plants, and it’s often hard to get rid of the pests.

BUT, this plant is so lush, and I love it so much that I was willing to put in a lot of effort to get rid of the mealy bugs. 

💚 1. Every few days, I would inspect as many leaves as I could and remove the mealy bugs with either an alcohol pad (I find them at CVS and they’re called alcohol prep pads) or a Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol. It’s gonna be time-consuming and tedious, but it’s the best way to get rid of the large clumps that are visible.

💚 2. Since this plant is large, and there’s a lot of nooks and crannies, it’s impossible to get every single one with a Q-tip. So, my next step is to spray the whole plant down with a dilated alcohol spray. Make sure to get in all of the nooks and crannies, and also the tops and bottoms of each leaf. I repeat this at least once a week to make sure I’m keeping the mealybug population down.

And make sure to keep your plant out of direct sunlight, because the sun will burn the leaves if it makes contact with them while the alcohol is fresh on the leaves. 

And whenever you’re handling a plant that’s infested with bugs, make sure to wash your hands thoroughly afterwards before touching any other plants to help reduce spread of pests.
