Impact is not measured in the moment. It’s measured by who reaches out long after.

Six weeks after returning from South Africa, I received a message from one of the students I had the privilege of mentoring during my visit. Their words were simple, sincere, and a powerful reminder of why this work matters:

“How are you feeling today.”
“When are you coming back to South Africa 🇿🇦.”
“Please come back, Donaldson Primary School misses you.”
“You changed my life. It changed the way I think about myself.”

These moments remind me that influence is not defined by the stage or the spotlight. It is defined by the growth that continues long after the room has emptied.

For leaders and speakers, this is an invitation to think differently about how we show up for the people who give us their time. Here are three ways to give back with intention:
Follow up with purpose. A simple check‑in can reinforce belief and remind someone they are seen.

Be accessible in meaningful ways. You cannot mentor everyone, but you can invest deeply in a few.

Lead for transformation, not performance. The real impact is what continues long after you leave the room.

If you have influenced someone recently, consider reaching out again. Your presence may be the encouragement they need to keep believing in what is possible.
