This isn't science fiction. Antimicrobial resistance is already happening — and doctors and pharmacists are seeing it in hospitals and pharmacies right now.

I was invited to a showing of @lifelinemusical and a preview of the upcoming HBO/BBC documentary Superbug, alongside some incredible healthcare creators. Here's what they want you to know.

You don't need antibiotics for the flu. You don't need them for viral infections. But every time they're taken unnecessarily, bacteria get smarter — and the antibiotics we rely on for serious infections become much less effective.

One day it could be you, or someone you love, who needs them to work.
