I didn’t go to an Ivy League, but I still landed a full-time offer in Big Tech.

I didn’t go to an Ivy League, but I still landed 25+ interviews from Fortune 500 companies. 

I didn’t go to an Ivy League, but I still landed and completed 3 internships at Microsoft.

So here are 3 things that helped me break into Big Tech when I was a college student at a non-top tier university👇

✅ Do lots of mock interviews.

For example, if you want to break into PM internships, it is important to not only read about product case frameworks, but actually apply them.

When I was preparing for Microsoft’s PM Intern interviews, I read the book “Cracking the PM Interview and then then watched mock interviews on Exponent. 

However, what truly helped me pass was doing 2-3 mock interviews daily and using peer feedback to improve every day. 

✅ Properly prepare for coffee chats. 

When you set up a chat with someone, tell them specifically why you want to chat. 

Do you want to learn more about the company’s interview process? Do you want to learn more about their day to day?

Before your coffee chat, prepare a list of well-researched, personalized questions that you can’t just find on Google. 

✅ Document your journey.

I once saw a quote that said, “Whatever you do, if you create content for it, you will outdo the competition.” 

I ran with it and actively posted about my tech journey on LinkedIn throughout college.

I led me to get more DMs from recruiters, more interviews, and more career opportunities than ever.
