I got accepted to a Microsoft Internship during my freshman year of college without a going to an Ivy League or getting a referral.

Here are 3 tips on how to land a Big Tech internship without referrals ⬇️

✅ Quantify your experiences using the XYZ method.

In each bullet point of each experience in your resume, use the XYZ method, which is, “Achieved X as measured by Y by doing Z.”

This way, instead of listing job description-styled responsibilities, you’ll be able to describe your impact and back it up with statistics + data.

✅ Focus on improving your overall energy, tone, and conversational skills for interviews.

While your resume is typically an “expertise check,” your interview is usually more of a “vibe check.”

Interviewers know you already have the skills and qualifications for the position, so they are interviewing you to validate if you would be a collaborative co-worker that is easy & fun to work with.

✅ Have some form of a portfolio relevant to your role.

Whether it be a personal website, a GitHub profile, or a social media presence, having a portfolio of your work that you can link to your resume is usually always beneficial.

For example, my personal website and social media presence has always been a topic of conversation that impresses my interviewers.

🚀 P.S. Want to land your dream internship at a Big Tech company?

Apply to Student to Big Tech, a private community where you’ll get direct mentorship from me, weekly coaching calls, and a support system of early career individuals who are just as motivated as you to land a spot at a Fortune 500 company.
