This ONE interview tip got me 3 internship offers at Microsoft as a College Student 💰

Ready? ⬇️

Don’t use the STAR method when interviewing. ❌

Instead, use my interviewing method: Skyler’s STAR Sandwich. ✅

Here is my formula for any behavioral question, such as...

“What was your biggest challenge when working with a team?”

✅ Start with a grabber statement that talks about a core value you have relating to the company’s mission.

Here is an example:

“I approach team challenges with a sense of empathy, and ensure that everyone’s voices are heard by doing weekly check-ins with each teammate.”

✅ Then, dive into your story with the STAR method.

S - Explain the SITUATION, which is the context of the story.

T - Describe the TASK at hand, which is the problem.

A - Describe the ACTION you took to resolve the problem.

R - Showcase the RESULT with numbers and team responses.

✅ End with a conclusion statement that sandwiches your story, ties up that value, and describes how you can apply that value to that company.

Here is an example:

“As you can see from the results of my approach to this team challenge, I lead teams with a sense of empathy, and I can bring this quality to the table as a Product Manager Intern at Microsoft.”
