How to stay safe & prepared while solo hiking 👇🏼 

Hiking alone can be scary even for someone like me with a lot of experience doing it. But there’s things I do every single solo hike that help me to be as prepared as possible and that you should too:

🗺️ Download @alltrails offline maps
I use AllTrails to download offline maps before heading to the trailhead. This way, the map is on my phone and ready to be used and will track my location at all times on the hike so I can retrace my steps if needed. In order to download offline maps you’ll need to upgrade to AllTrails Plus for $35.99 a month. ⚡️ @anker_official MagGo Power Bank
If your phone dies your offline maps will be worthless which is why it’s so important to have a charged phone AND a back of power bank to keep the phone charged on the hike. The Anker MagGo is my go to since it charges as fast as a lightning cable, charges my phone fully, and is compact. 

📞 @garminoutdoor InReach Satellite phone
I pay for a yearly search and rescue subscription through my Garmin InReach satellite phone so that if I get lost, injured, or stranded I can call for help and be rescued. The satellite phone works as long as I have a clear view of the sky and will send search and rescue my exact coordinates. Some iPhones now also have satellite messaging that can be used in a similar way! 

💭 Tell someone where you are going
Sharing my location with people I trust and letting them know when you’ll be back is another way to make sure someone is looking out for you in case things go awry. Let them know when you’ll be back and when they can expect a text from you letting them know you’re back and safe! 

🎒Be prepared with extra resources
I pack my bag with the worst case scenario in mind. If I had to spend the night in the woods with what I have on my back, I’m going to make sure to have the following: emergency blanket, jacket, extra water, extra food, and self defense weapons.
