The infamous drop ceiling trick! Filming in a low ceiling room is always challenging from both a camera framing and lighting standpoint. Why? Here’s a few reasons:

1. It limits your camera framing and movement because you’re forced to see the ceiling in low, wide angle shots.

2. Seeing the ceiling isn’t always a problem if you’re lighting one character, but I have 6-8 characters to light in a wide. So, if I can’t add lights to the drop ceiling, I’m extremely limited in the direction, quality and intensity of light I can use.

Luckily, the @aputure.lighting INFINIBARS fit perfectly into the practical fluorescent light panels. We were able to switch the old bulbs out and have full control over the ceiling. Integrated lighting in this way saves us time and allows me as the DP to see the ceiling in my frames. :)

What are you favorite tricks for lighting low ceiling rooms? See you on set! 🎥
