Wars have been one of the most devastating events for humanity throughout history. However, the effects of war are not limited to soldiers alone. One of the most vulnerable groups living under the shadow of war is children.

The innocence of children is most affected by the destructive impacts of war. Bombings, the destruction of their homes, the loss of their loved ones, and living under constant threat deeply affect the mental and physical health of children. In a period when they should be playing, going to school, and experiencing a normal childhood, surviving becomes their top priority.

Civilians are those caught in the middle of war, unarmed and unprotected. For them, war is a catastrophe that threatens their homes, families, and lives. Civilians often become the primary victims of war. Especially children, women, and the elderly are the most vulnerable in the chaos created by war.

From a child’s perspective, war is an incomprehensible and terrifying nightmare. Playgrounds turn into bomb craters; schools into shelters; and friends can become victims of war. Coping with these traumatic experiences is much harder for children than for adults. Therefore, the international community has a significant responsibility to mitigate the effects of war and ensure the protection of children.

After the devastation caused by war, psychological and physical support must be provided to help children and civilians return to normalcy. International organizations, civil society groups, and governments must come together to assist these most vulnerable victims of war.
