Thoughts on Ritual, Chaos & Awe…

As children our conditioning often consists of traditions, holidays, and rituals that culminate our subconscious attachments to events that are supposed to create meaning in life.

Historically, ritual served as a way to support cultures and societies - to protect individuals from the impact of hyper-industrialism.

Collectively it is becoming difficult to manage the demands of life with modern technology.

Ritual used to serve as a buffer to change, highlighting a way of consciously supporting life events rather than denying or indulging in it.

Carl Jung often describes the ascent into consciousness as a descent into chaos.

In that chaos one may confront the shadow and work intimately with their darkness. Guiding the soul from the wounded into meaning and purpose, restoring awe.

We live in an age where endless entertainment is a bombardment. We forget as a society how to live life intentionally and with meaning. Endlessly doomscrolling, the rituals revolve now around the egoic state of media, likes, shares and follows.

The connection to ritual & embracing our own source has been traded for the age of influencers & content creation dictated by an algorithm. Likes and social clout give way to communities, and yet Su!c!de is alarmingly common among the ritual of performative media engagement for validation.

We forget that ritual serves as the bridge between the outer and inner world of self. Do we embody ritual as a form of creation for awe that inspires purpose in life?

More than ever we need ritual that connects us to our center of creation, to inform our purpose, as give us experience as a way to have relatedness to ourselves, others and the universe.

With more secularism and sophisticated technology, it’s easy to become distracted or addicted to the doomscroll.

To return in ritual while descending into chaos is to embody what Rollo May states, “Power is the ability to cause or prevent change.”

Ritual is the transformation.
