I saw three moose this past weekend as I was floating with one of my children on the river.

I’ve been studying depth psychology and dream symbolism in some coursework right now. Diving into animal symbolism brought up curiosity around the moose that keeps showing up every time I float.

The moose is full of surprises. Although it may appear an ungainly creature, it is surprisingly clever and agile. It can move through almost any environment at great speed and without being seen. This is a symbol that is about breakthroughs.

In working closely with the moose symbol, one is working with the wild spirit within themself, which suddenly bursts out of the undergrowth and turns their world upside down. With the moose as a symbol, there is nothing you can rely upon but change and evolution.

The moose is equally comfortable in water or on land, so it brings out deep feelings that require us to constantly let go of where we think we are going.

This is a symbol of great genius and creativity, demanding complete surrender to the organic nature of the creative process itself.

I’ve been contemplating what it means to dream and create again. Not literal dreaming when asleep, but in giving myself permission to dream again the possibilities around the second half of my life.

Many of my dreams were formulated around perceptions of others that were projected onto me.

Stepping back into my right brain in a creative process of dreaming feels like an evolution of creative vision I’m inching my way towards. Seeing the three moose this weekend and reading up on its symbolism has me thinking about this stage of my life and how agility and creativity go hand in hand in my current mid-life evolution.

Have you had any birds, animals, reptiles or insects show up in a pattern around you lately?
