Thoughts on inviting the shadow in...

The shadows that stand around us are often living in exile, hidden parts of who we once were. The excavation process of the shadow can be painful stepping into radical accountability.

The shadows exist as rejected aspects of human conditioning, they can exist in any shape or size and surface at any given moment. Much of our subconscious years are spent suppressing the shadow side of ourselves. Unknowing, we judge and reject ourselves as a way to stay attached to the cultures, family, religions, & systems that define our early conditioning.

Our survival seeks out that attachment in our formative years, and if that conditioning is constricting to a child it can lead to self-rejection as a form of self-preservation.

That judgement can follow in shadow for many years after, impacting all kinds of decisions, without realization that it is managing our fear or pain.

As awareness happens around this shadow work, it can be easy to isolate oneself as a way to further control these seemingly rogue shadows.

However, if one chooses to dive into the depths of their shadow, and re-parent the self-rejection, inevitably we start to create space that invites others in if we choose.
The more we ground ourselves in our own authenticity with acceptance of all parts of ourself, the less we externalize or act on internalized judgement.

Contemplating a few nights back, I felt impressed at the shadow inviting us to explore our inner most vulnerabilities. With open and outstretched arms it is through sharing about our shadows that real human connection happens.

As we give voice to our own experiences, we invite others to join us along the journey. The shadow has no ego, it unexpressed parts, masking in egoic state until we wake up and choose to evolve. Dropping the mask of fake attachments, we embrace authenticity and acceptance of ourselves & others along the way.

How have your shadows shown up as judgement in their subconscious state?
