A few months back I was thinking about mornings. No regular routine, but always a place to be. My mind wandered to 15 years ago & sleepless raising three children under the age of 6, one newly diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.

I remember rocking babies to sleep after nursing every two hours, staring into the sunrise over the Teton Mountain Range, half awake but holding onto what little time I had in the newborn phase.

It got me thinking as I reminisced - about the cycles and rhythms - how we are often flowing without intention. We spend the early portions of our lives asleep from possibility.

To intentionally set one’s life in motion is to wake up - observe and contemplate. To contemplate is to think profoundly, to meditate.

Contemplation is to commit to a profound and relaxing process that is beneficial to the spirit.

Often we think we are contemplating when in reality we are overthinking. To contemplate is to connect with one’s innermost thoughts & develop an awareness of oneself.

To overthink is to connect with the external perceptions of the world and how it impacts us in our fear - cycling back into our subconscious programming that was injected into us that we have not yet awaken from. Subconscious thoughts on loop, parroting the critiques projected onto us that we internalized in order to survive.

Contemplation is the practice of being fully present in heart, mind and body that allows creative expression towards what possibility could be.

Overthinking is the rumination of our thoughts running away from us. Scarcity and risk permeating, with the component of fear, the “what if’s” dominate and suppress.

Contemplation is expansive - overthinking is restrictive.

Next time you find yourself in a loop of thought, ask yourself - is this thought expansive in creation and possibility, or is it constricting you in an effort to control based around the perceptions of others?

Contemplation is the act of reflecting on something in search of its deepest meaning to you. Shifting from uncertainty to knowing is to transform chaos into clarity.
