The shadow of oppression is one of the greatest dilemmas since the beginning of time. Silence is the greatest tool of the oppressor.

262 days ago I embarked on a journey to dive deep into my own suffering, in hopes of finding more healing from the trauma I have experienced. I also kicked off a year long program studying with Gabor Mate in Compassionate Inquiry.

In diving in, I sought to understand and challenge every construct that was a systemic part of my upbringing on an intimate level in connection to coming home to myself.

This last weekend I spent time in another healing container in plant medicine with a trauma informed facilitator to continue this path of understanding. I have felt for a long time, that in my trauma, oppression is the root of that pain. I have felt the injustices of the world since I was a very young child, and have challenged the unfairness of life while being endlessly dismissed until it was no longer safe to do - questioning everything from religion, to hierarchy, to patriarchy - as an Enneagram 8, I continue to challenge the systemic status quo.

Diving into the depth of my own shadow as I recover from abuse - I’ve unearthed dilemmas of dominance, oppression, corruption, pride, judgement. Many of these external environments led me to take on complicit behaviors as a child in order to survive, which also wounded me as a victim cyclically repeating constricting behavior as an adult in abusive relationships.

Knowing the stories of abuse gave me validation after I left, but also kept me cycling - unable to transmute my experiences I suffered in silence paralyzed by fear. Afraid to speak up, it led to SI, constriction, depression.

The antidote to oppression is ownership. In oppression, how we face adversity determines how we transmute ourselves into bringing to light the hidden oppression in the world. When one faces oppression with ownership, without denying it, as they speak it and transmute it into the collective consciousness - we transfigure it into awareness, advocacy and create visibility. The Truth Liberates.

Is your silence supporting the oppression of those around you?
