Whenever you get a new film from Park Chan-wook it’s always going to be a big deal in cinephiles eyes, and that is no exception with NO OTHER CHOICE. Finally having gotten the chance to see it I can honestly it’s one of my favorites from 2025. This was always one I’d been looking forward too and after watching it I want to see it again and again it’s that good. 

No surprise here but the direction is absolutely astonishing to behold. Somehow Park was able to make shots in film that I had never seen before and yet have them all make sense within the story and not just for artistic flair. I would argue this is the best directed film of 2025 it’s that good and it’s a shame he’s not being considered for awards (which probably won’t ever happen). 

Also the cast, particularly Lee Byung-hun, is great. In Byung-hun’s case he is the center of this whole film and what an inspired choice he was. I’m not sure anyone could pull off the lighthearted yet dark interior of such a complex character better than he could. Cannot wait for more of his work after this and he deserves all the praise in the world. 

But I think what most had me interested in this was its main story. It’s a simple premise but easy to mess up if it didn’t feel earned by the end, but it does. It takes its serious moments and situations and ties them into comedic moments that work so well and fit right in line with how our characters act. This could have easily fallen on its face and yet it stands tall. 

If you haven’t seen this yet and you want to I highly recommend you do. My favorite directed movie last year with a great cast and impressive cinematic flair that will make your jaw drop. Top 5 movie of 2025 for me!
