Absolutely lives up to the first 28 Years Later while also being its own beast.

There was a lot about this that I didn’t know what to expect. For one, it was being directed by Nia DaCosta whose work has been ok at best in my opinion. Secondly it’s release date. Most January films being the dumping ground for dog water. But in the case of The Bone Temple, both were washed away.

Not only does DaCosta shine here, she may have even done it better than Boyle in some ways, while still keeping the energy he brings to his films.

The cast of course is amazing, with Ralph Fiennes absolutely cooking every second on screen and brought a fascinating character to life.

And I think that’s why I like the way these movies treat the “apocalypse”. It’s so much more unique than just run, hide, survive, repeat. It actually takes its time to show that yes the world is awful now while also diving into the effect on it’s characters, in particular Spike and Kelson who are easily the two best characters in the movie along side Jimmy.

So excited to see where they go for part three, given the ending sets up an interesting premise.
