“Golf is Everywhere” is a concept we think about often at LIE + LOFT… imagined golf holes that just need a pin. On Sunday’s post, we revealed a 9 hole routing through NW Portland, the neighborhood I call home.

Northwest Portland presents a hodgepodge of restaurants, mid-century homes, twenty story apartment buildings, and an industrial area that was once the sight of the world’s fair in 1905.  Oh, and food carts. Lots of food carts.  I’ve had the opportunity to live in a few different parts of the Rose City, with this being my most filling. 

Good or bad, in the near future I’ll be spending much more time at home in the NW.  I ruptured my achilles and am out of commission until summer when it comes to swinging the sticks.  Post surgery + recovering, I’ve found comfort and adventure in creating this urban track, an exploration of golf is everywhere + golf is home. 

Today, I’m going to unveil the first three holes and some course notes to remember if you find yourself wanting to explore: 

Hole #1 is on the corner of NW 21st & Wilson— look for the black/white graffiti and listen for revs from a kitty corner Ducati dealership.  Bikers play fast if you wanna let em go through.

Just on the other side of 21st you’ll find Hole #2 at the entryway into a residential cul-de-sac. This one you want to play below the pin on your approach, as there’s a clear sign behind the pin which warns that parking is strictly prohibited! Oh and be sure to say hi to our lil homie Bunker; a gray tabby cat that lingers near the sidewalk tee box. 

Hole #3 takes us down Wilson St looking straight towards the Fremont Bridge before dog-legging to the left onto 20th Ave. It’s a bit of a blind shot into this pin, so your best bet is to aim at the rusty building panels about 20 feet above where the pin sits. Playing slightly downhill, be sure to club down before you find yourself on the train tracks a couple blocks down.
