I poured my heart into MY authentic story, with special tributes to my ancestors here with me in spirit, and familia still here with me. This is the expression of Nuyorican that carries la isla in the entirety of her being. This took a span of 3 days, 4 hours each day - writing this piece, adding more and removing parts — finalizing it at 4 minutes and 40 seconds when performed. I had to cut it to under 3 minutes to share as much as I could with you all!

With my mom being my only present family member in the audience — sharing this heart to heart moment with her is a memory I’m deeply proud of for creating. If I align in my purpose well enough, I’ll someday be watching my daughter go on to take up space and use the power of her voice in beautiful ways as well. This is a documented testimony of building a legacy with generations behind and in front of me — from humble beginnings. A thank you to @almaswayofficial for teaching me what a tocaya is 🥹🌺

The next and final segment @thebxpuertoricanparade will be THIS Sunday, May, 4th — the coronation ceremony to crown our infantil, Juvenile, Rey y Reina from the Damas and Caballeros who have been beautifully representing their Pueblo and culture with pride and grace 👸🏽👑🤴🏽🏆
