February gratitude #photodump ❤️✨

I’ll be honest… I’ve been finding it hard to show up on IG lately, and I wanted to speak to this because I know I’m not the only one.

I’m no stranger to big feelings and challenges, both in my personal life and in my work. In emergency and medical psychiatry, I sit with some of the hardest moments people face. It’s heavy, but it’s also full of hope — helping people find their way toward healing. ❤️‍🩹

Usually I’m able to carry that weight and still have space for the things that fill my cup: family, nature, creative projects, adventures. But lately, with the constant stream of difficult and disappointing news, it’s been a lot and I’ve been feeling drained.

While I’ve continued to show up for others in real offline life, I haven’t been taking great care of myself. I haven’t been sleeping enough, I’ve been too tired to exercise, and as a middle-aged woman squarely in perimenopause… I’ve been feeling kind of bleh 😑

But when I return to my intentional gratitude practice, my focus comes back and I remember my why for journaling and sharing here…

In my early 20s, during a very low period in my life, I pulled myself out of depression when I learned to intentionally notice the small wonders around me — a beautiful sunset, a coffee date with a friend, a flower blooming in spring. Slowly, the light returned. ☀️

Since then, that’s how I’ve kept my glass half full and my optimism intact: by continuously paying attention to and giving thanks to the wonder and beauty that surrounds us. Those small moments create space for hope and remind us how much good still exists.

And so I remind myself that even when the news is hard and our hearts feel heavy, it’s still important to show up and celebrate small joys, big joys, wild places, and the beauty of being human.

Because every day is a gift and another chance to keep choosing hope and love and kindness to both others and ourselves. ❤️
