I graduated from medical school 20 years ago, and I’m still loving my work as much as I did at the beginning. I’m deeply grateful to have found purpose in medicine. ❤️

To be honest, I started out a bit lost during those first non-clinical years of med school—organic chemistry, embryology, rote memorization 🤪 didn’t exactly vibe with the creative in me. After studying, I’d go out with my fashion friends and host dinner parties. But once clinical rotations began, things started to click. I love stories, connecting with people, and problem-solving—and during my psychiatry rotations, I found my calling.

Some days are tough and emotionally draining. But being there during someone’s time of crisis (I’m an emergency and consult psychiatrist)—to help restore hope, or when a cure isn’t possible, to provide comfort and peace—is a privilege I never take for granted.

I don’t have many photos or any videos of me at work. I’m not in an OR and I don’t do procedures. I show up in a quiet, intimate way—listening, supporting, and holding space for patients, their families, colleagues, and my teams. It’s deeply meaningful work—and one I protect.

I share many non-medical moments here because they all contribute to who I am and to being the best physician I can be.

Twenty-five years since I started medical school, my advice to anyone considering medicine is this:

✨It’s a wonderful way to serve and show up for others—but don’t forget to take care of yourself along the way.
✨Help others, and accept help when you need it.
✨Spend your time and energy intentionally with the people you love and who love you back.
✨Nourish the parts of you outside of medicine.
✨Build your support system—I did not get here on my own.

I continue thrive as a woman in medicine because of my friends, family, colleagues, and mentors. A special shoutout to all women in medicine—many who are featured in these clips ❤️✨
