Lets have a discussion about AI today & lets keep it civil please. If someone has an idea for a shot they can’t physically pull off alone and they use AI to bring that idea to life, is that ok? IMO, it is. I showed up to this location alone today. I knew the shots I wanted to achieve would’ve easily taken over $100k to do. And this isn’t a guess, this is from having directed these exact types of shots across commercial & music videos over the years. Permits, street closures, multiple specialized crew members, drone operators, chase car drivers, motocrane operators, safety protocols. It all adds up quick! Yet I got every single shot I wanted with literally just me & my camera. If the argument is that it’s taking jobs away from the film community, I understand the concern. But the reality is I, and many other solo creators, would not have been able to hire out that crew to begin with. So now the question becomes, if someone cannot afford to achieve these shots, do they not deserve to bring their ideas to life? I disagree. These tools are for creators who wouldn’t have had access to this level of production in the first place. Don’t be upset at some kid who grew up watching big Hollywood movies and finally has something that gets them closer to their imagination. I love that for them. If major studios start replacing crews with this, that’s a different conversation, bring your pitchforks there instead. But for everyday creators, I think it’s fair. I’ve been a filmmaker for over 15 years and there were always shots I had to remove from my shot list because I lacked the resources. It’s honestly crazy to think we’re now in a time where that limitation isn’t what it used to be. But none of this replaces taste. Or story. Or skill. AI doesn’t make good work, creators do. These are just another tool to throw in the bag. Curious where you stand on this, is this acceptable to you or not?
