That clip is a perfect example of both the upside and the gap in today’s systems.

Tesla clearly shows how far driver assistance has come, reacting fast, detecting obstacles in low visibility, and executing a clean avoidance maneuver. That’s not trivial.

But the criticism is valid too.

The bigger question isn’t how it handled the obstacle, it’s why it committed to entering a near-zero visibility situation in the first place. A cautious human driver might have slowed earlier or stopped completely.

That’s the key limitation right now:
These systems are great at reacting, but not always at anticipating risk the way humans do in uncertain environments.

So both things can be true at once:
Impressive capability under pressure.
But still not fully reliable in edge cases.

It’s a reminder that current systems are assistive, not autonomous.

And moments like this show exactly where the line still is.
