“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.” -Numbers 6:24-26

May you be blessed by God, rich in His presence and gifts, and be kept by Him. While we often expect God’s blessing to mean a life of comfort and ease, that certainly isn’t always the case, nor is it our greatest and highest good. God knows how we need to be blessed, even if we don’t. His blessings are not always what we would choose, but they are always what we need. True blessing from God is higher than happiness or wealth or comfort; it is being drawn closer to Him, shaped by Him, and sustained by Him in every season.

To be kept by the Lord is a blessing indeed. It is not merely protection from harm, but being held, guided, and preserved by Him. Some are kept by their own sin and desire, others by idolatry and greed, and still others by their own bitterness and anger. But to be kept by the Lord ensures life, peace, and true success even when circumstances are uncertain.

Another trip around the sun, how wonderful it is to celebrate with the Lord! I am grateful for the ways He has blessed and kept me this past year. May I continue to fix my eyes on Him in the year ahead and for all the days of my life!
