I rated the content strategies of 5 car detailing brands.
ㅤ
Here's what they're getting right, and where they're leaving money on the table.
ㅤ
Meguiar's
ㅤ
Everything they make is built to earn trust. YouTube education. UGC demos. It all feels platform native and it works together well. Their gap, if any, is longer story-driven content.
ㅤ
Chemical Guys
ㅤ
The gold standard in this category. They built a cult following by teaching people everything there is to know about detailing.
ㅤ
They use different messages and different buyer avatars to stay relevant across the full audience. The result: 1.1M YouTube subscribers. 1.2M on Instagram. This playbook is education done at scale.
ㅤ
Adam's Polishes
ㅤ
My favorite direction in the group. They lean hard into enthusiasts. Advanced restoration, deep detail work, an hour-long YouTube video cut into multiple short-form clips for social.
ㅤ
They've found their lane. If anything, I want to see them go harder in it.
ㅤ
Griots Garage
ㅤ
Well executed content that blends in. Meguiar's and Chemical Guys already own education in this space.
ㅤ
Griots has started experimenting with memes and entertainment, which I respect.
ㅤ
However, if you're going to go that direction, you have to go all in (think Ryan Air). Griots will have to make that play call.
ㅤ
Turtle Wax
ㅤ
Big CTV campaigns with influencer partnerships in between.
ㅤ
This is a strategy that I think is becoming a little dated. In the interest-based media environment, you need branded social creative that earns attention rather than buying it. What that creative looks like is a whole other conversation.
ㅤ
The brands winning here all made the same call. They picked a lane and committed to it.
Which brand do you think is doing content best right now?
