The Mayor responds after accidentally going viral on one of his daily “Good morning Ottawa” posts‼️😂

Mark Sutcliffe, who regularly shares photos from his early morning runs across the city, posted a shot from Fisher Park showing melting snow, flooded ice, and scattered Christmas trees under a grey sky. 

While he says the photo was meant to reflect the city transitioning into spring, the internet had a very different reaction, leading to him going unexpectedly viral… but not for the reasons he probably expected.

The post quickly blew up, racking up over 900,000 views as people flooded the comments with jokes and criticism, with some calling the scene a “hellscape” and others mocking the city’s appearance.

Sutcliffe says he didn’t expect the reaction at all, explaining that his posts are simply meant to capture real moments around Ottawa, even if they’re not always picture-perfect. He added that spring in the city isn’t always pretty, but it’s part of the reality.

Despite the backlash, the mayor says he’s taking it lightly and even found some of the comments funny. He also made it clear he has no plans to stop the daily posts, saying many residents still enjoy them and that he’s just trying to bring a bit of positivity each morning.

The viral moment has now sparked a wider conversation online about how Ottawa is perceived… especially during that messy transition between winter and spring.
