A powerful moment of support is coming out of a heartbreaking tragedy.

UFC president Dana White has offered to cover medical treatment in the United States for 12-year-old Maya Gebala, one of the survivors of the devastating school shooting in Tumbler Ridge that claimed eight lives.

Maya has been recovering at B.C. Children’s Hospital after suffering serious brain injuries while trying to protect her classmates during the attack. Her condition has remained critical, with doctors closely monitoring complications that delayed a key surgery.

Her mother, Cia Edmonds, recently shared a more hopeful update, explaining that an infection which previously caused concern is now showing positive signs and has not worsened. For the first time since Maya was admitted, doctors have also begun discussing the possibility of her leaving the intensive care unit, marking a significant step forward in her recovery.

Dana White’s support comes after the UFC had already paid tribute to Maya by placing her name on the octagon during an event in Texas. The offer includes access to a top-tier children’s hospital in Los Angeles, along with full medical support and accommodations for her family.

Until now, Maya had not been stable enough to travel, but her family says that may soon change if her condition continues to improve. After weeks of uncertainty, they say it finally feels like there is a sense of hope and a path forward.
