A 19-year-old has been arrested and the pickup truck linked to the fatal hit-and-run has been located, notably bearing a “Hail Satan” decal across its windshield‼️😨🛻💔

Ottawa police have confirmed the arrest of a 19-year-old man in connection with the tragic hit-and-run that claimed the life of crossing guard Peter Clark in Barrhaven.

Clark, a man in his 50s, was struck around 8:20 a.m. Monday while helping children cross at Cedarview Road and Kennevale Drive, near Mary Honeywell Elementary School. He was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition but later died from his injuries.

Police say the suspect was arrested Tuesday, though charges have not yet been publicly confirmed as the investigation remains ongoing.

Authorities had initially been searching for a dark-coloured pickup truck that fled the scene. On Tuesday, multiple police cruisers were seen outside a home near the school, where a black Toyota Tundra believed to be connected to the incident was located with visible damage and police seals on the vehicle.

Clark’s death has sent shockwaves through the Barrhaven community, where he was known as a kind and dedicated crossing guard who greeted families daily and took pride in keeping children safe. Parents described him as a friendly and positive presence, always smiling regardless of the weather.

Officials across the city, including local councillors and national leaders, have expressed condolences, calling his death a heartbreaking loss for the community. The Ottawa Police Service emphasized the critical role crossing guards play in protecting children and ensuring safe routes to and from school.

The incident has also reignited concerns about speeding and road safety in the area, with residents saying dangerous driving and failure to obey stop signs have been ongoing issues around the intersection.

This marks the second fatal incident involving a crossing guard in Ontario in the past six months, raising broader concerns about safety in school zones.
