First day of spring… last day of winter… and Ottawa’s getting hit with snow first thing in the morning‼️😳

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement calling for 5 to 10 cm of snow across the city Friday, with the heaviest snowfall expected during the morning commute.

Snow is set to begin around 7 a.m. and continue into the evening, with peak rates reaching up to 2 to 3 cm per hour, making roads and walkways difficult to navigate.

Spring officially arrives at 10:46 a.m., marking both the first day of spring and the final day of winter, but it won’t feel like it just yet.

The timing also comes as many celebrate the first day of Eid and Nowruz, the Persian New Year, marking an important day for communities across Ottawa.
