Grandpa Andy’s Chewy Gooeys
Ingredients:
	•	1 (14-ounce) bag of caramels
	•	2/3 cup evaporated milk, divided
	•	2/3 cup melted margarine or butter
	•	1 box German chocolate cake mix
	•	1 cup coarsely chopped pecans
	•	1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

⸻

Instructions:
	1.	Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease and flour a 13x9-inch baking pan.
	2.	Melt the caramels:
In a double boiler (or a microwave-safe bowl), melt the caramels with 1/3 cup of the evaporated milk. Stir until smooth, then set aside.
	3.	Prepare the cake mixture:
In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, melted margarine or butter, the remaining 1/3 cup evaporated milk, and chopped pecans. Mix until just moistened.
	4.	First layer:
Press a little less than half of the cake mixture into the prepared pan.
Bake for 6 minutes.
	5.	Add the filling:
Remove from the oven. Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the warm base. Pour the melted caramel mixture on top of the chocolate chips.
	6.	Top layer:
Flatten the remaining cake batter with your hands into small pieces and lay them gently over the caramel layer, covering as much as possible.
	7.	Final bake:
Return to the oven and bake for 15–18 minutes or until set.
	8.	Cool completely before cutting into bars.
These bars can be frozen for later!
