No pollen is out of reach for the buff-tailed bumblebee. Using a technique called “buzz pollination," she grips the flower and rapidly vibrates her thorax—like a tiny jackhammer—shaking pollen loose in a cloud of yellow dust. She then combs it into “pollen baskets” on her hind legs to carry back to the nest as fuel for the next generation.
