"In high school, I was more interested in creative composition over blind quality, though I found both with the 2013 Bluecoats. Rich Ramos, who taught me at Buena high school (go bulldogs), and then later at the Mandarins, was marching that year. Seeing my instructor, and a big role model in high school, marching DCI gave me a ton of motivation to work towards doing what he did."⁠
