juttaleerdam claimed Olympic gold in the women’s 1000m speed skating, clocking 1:12.31 to break the Olympic record

Just moments before, Dutch teammate Femke Kok set a new record, finishing in 1:12.59. Leerdam watched, then took to the ice in the final race and beat it, earning Team Netherlands a gold and silver medal.

Four years after her Beijing silver, Leerdam has her Olympic gold. 

Cue tears all round.
