## Caption

Now for something a little different... Usually I take this shot with a dozen arena strobe lights. The resulting pop of light overpowers the ambient arena lighting which produces clear shots even in the dark. This type of lighting is nice, but it can result in some boring flat images.

This time, I wanted to preserve the mood while still getting some dramatic lighting. So I mounted a single high-powered strobe light high in the empty arena bowl at just the right angle to light the side of Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck's jersey. This angle accentuates the "shadowy" wrinkles in the jersey.

When you can control your angles and shape your light from the source the visual possibilities are endless.
