This is an art project I've been working with - off and on - for about 15 years. There were several times I completely scrapped the piece and started over until I finally found something I liked.

I wanted to create some wall art that wasn't necessarily a photographic image, instead I envisioned something more along the lines of an expressionism piece of art. Something to capture the essence of the building during it's finest time, both colorful and bold, yet wispy and dreamy to bring back the countless fond memories fans have had in this venue over the years. 

Opening in 1974, Northlands Coliseum was the heart of sports and entertainment in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. For more than 40 years, this arena played host Edmonton Oilers hockey club along with various other big name hockey and sporting events. Fans will recall seven different Stanley Cup finals played here between 1983 and 2006 along with an NHL All-star Game in 1989 among other tournaments over the years (World Juniors, Canada Cup, etc).

This is also the arena where I shot my first NHL game many years ago. It will always hold a special place in my heart. I was somewhat sad and nostalgic when it closed. Recently, when Edmonton city council had discussed the demolition of this vacant building it prompted me to dig up this passionate project.
