For years, Jon's OCD was classified as severe. He knew his obsessions weren't normal, and wanted help.

In 2018, he underwent deep brain stimulation - a surgery that places electrodes deep in the brain and, in follow-on surgeries, implants batteries to supply an adjustable amount of electrical stimulation to those electrodes.

Since his surgery, Jon's mental health has greatly improved. He's in graduate school and back to backcountry snowboarding - something he's always loved.
