In mid-March, the University of Missouri Department of Theatre put on its production of “Silent Sky.” The play was written by renowned playwright Lauren Gunderson, whose ex-husband, Stanford University professor Nathan Wolfe, is mentioned over 500 times in the Epstein files. Gunderson faced backlash in the national theater community in early February for her own alleged connection with Jeffrey Epstein.

By the time Gunderson's ties to Epstein came to light, Mizzou’s “Silent Sky” had already begun rehearsals. Talia Gritzmacher, who directed Mizzou’s production of “Silent Sky,” said she was aware of the controversy but elected to continue the show for several reasons, including the motivation to share the play’s message of highlighting underrepresented women in science. 

“Our main focus was making sure that the voices of these Harvard computers (were) told,” Gritzmacher said. “There's time to acknowledge what's happening with current events and with this Lauren Gunderson controversy, but there's also a very strong time and place for shutting that out and protecting our production.”
