Authorities arrested Denita Jackson, also identified as a member of the Lincoln University track program, at the scene. She has been charged with second degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with the case.⁠

According to court documents cited in national reporting, Jackson told officers she returned home early from work and encountered Goldson inside a locked bedroom belonging to a roommate. A confrontation allegedly followed. Investigators state that during the altercation she retrieved a knife from under a bed and stabbed Goldson before calling 911.
