Here's the fiscal case for reentry investment. 📊

North Carolina spends $148.67 per day to incarcerate one person. The Council of State Governments Justice Center estimates states collectively spend $8 billion annually on reincarceration alone.

The research on desistance from crime — the process by which people permanently exit offending — is unambiguous: people stop reoffending when they have stable employment, housing, and behavioral health support. 🏠💼🧠 

RAND Corporation research shows education and employment programs reduce recidivism substantially. The Urban Institute found supportive housing reduces rearrest rates by 40%.

North Carolina recognized this. Reentry 2030 commits the state to measurable goals around employment, housing, and health because investment upstream is less expensive and more effective than reincarceration downstream. 💡
