Dave Meltzer provided a fresh update on Nikki Bella's WrestleMania 42 status in his Sunday daily update at wonf4w, and the news is not encouraging.

"Regarding Nikki Bella and participating in the match at WrestleMania, I was just told a few minutes ago, 'it's too close to call.'"

Nikki Bella suffered an ankle injury early in a tag match alongside Brie against Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss on the March 27 SmackDown. She finished the match but was photographed in a walking boot days later. She has been waiting on MRI results to determine whether it's a high ankle sprain or something more serious.

The Bella Twins are advertised for a fatal four-way for the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship on Night 1 of WrestleMania 42, alongside champions Nia Jax and Lash Legend, Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss, and Bayley and Lyra Valkyria.

Per Meltzer's reporting in this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter, if Nikki cannot get cleared, the Kabuki Warriors could replace the Bellas in the four-way, or the match could be moved to Backlash on May 9 in Tampa.

WrestleMania 42 takes place Saturday April 18 and Sunday April 19 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, with Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton headlining Night 1 and CM Punk vs. Roman Reigns headlining Night 2.
