Actress Jameela Jamil has called out pro footballer Jorginho for what she described as a failure to take full accountability after a misunderstanding involving Chappell Roan led to her receiving widespread online backlash.

The incident stemmed from claims Jorginho made in late March that a security guard linked to Roan confronted Jorginho’s 11-year-old daughter at a hotel during Lollapalooza Brazil, which sparked a wave of criticism toward the singer.

Shortly afterwards, Roan clarified she had no knowledge of the situation and that the individual was not part of her team in a video posted to her Instagram.

Earlier this week, Jorginho issued a follow-up statement acknowledging the situation as a “misunderstanding” and expressing regret for the impact of his earlier comments. However, Jamil argued the apology did not go far enough, writing in a 14 April Instagram comment, “Maybe try ‘I regret making a public statement without all of the information that lead to a two week global hate campaign, and pile on of a young woman who was not in any way involved with the incident’”.

She continued, writing, “’I apologize for throwing this young woman under the bus and for taking so long to correct the narrative and intervene. I am a grown man, who understands the nature of fame, who should have behaved more responsibly.’”
