The 2014 retirement anniversary concert of Nam Yun Kim featured a heartfelt tribute as the Suwon student orchestra, led by pianist Daejin Kim, performed a surprise encore of “My Way” in her honor. ⁠

Widely regarded as the “godmother” of the Korean violin world, Kim was a Juilliard-trained soloist who performed internationally and helped elevate South Korea’s classical music scene. She taught at the Korea National University of Arts, mentoring renowned violinists such as Shin Zia, Clara-Jumi Kang and Lim Ji-young. Kim passed away on March 12, 2023, at the age of 74 after a long illness.⁠
