Tyler, the Creator has been speaking on a growing issue that a lot of public figures deal with now: people treating real life like content 🤳

Over the past year, multiple clips have gone viral of strangers recording him in public, following him with cameras, or trying to catch reactions for TikTok. Most recently, Tyler confronted a creator in Beverly Hills who was filming him through smart glasses, telling him directly, “You don’t know me,” and making it clear he wasn’t comfortable being recorded without consent. 

What makes this bigger than one moment is that Tyler has been consistent about it. In past interviews, he’s said internet culture has blurred personal boundaries, where strangers now feel entitled to access celebrities anytime they’re outside. The Meta glasses angle especially struck a nerve because it removes the normal signal of a camera being present. Someone can appear to be having a casual conversation while secretly filming for millions of views later. That turns everyday interactions into surveillance. 

There’s irony here too. Tyler built part of his career in the internet era, but he also represents the side of artistry that still values mystery, privacy, and being human off-camera. Not every sighting needs to be content. Not every person owes strangers a performance. His pushback feels less like anger and more like a reminder: fame doesn’t cancel boundaries 🙅‍♂️
