Lil Yachty’s connection to indie & alternative music has been around way longer than most people think 👀

Back in 2018, GQ caught him listening to artists like Tame Impala and Bon Iver during a shoot, way before he ever made a full pivot. That interest kept growing, and by the time he started working on Let’s Start Here., he was fully tapped into that world. He ended up collaborating directly with Kevin Parker, while pulling in names like Mac DeMarco, Alex G, Nick Hakim, and other musicians tied to indie and psych rock scenes.

He had already crossed into that lane earlier too, working with Tame Impala on the “Breathe Deeper” remix, then bringing Mac DeMarco out during his 2024 Coachella set. Those moments showed that he was actually building real relationships in that space, not just taking influence.

Even with Faye Webster, the connection goes back to middle school in Atlanta. That history made songs like “Lego Ring” feel totally natural, not a forced collaboration.
